Administrative district - general information

The district Jarosław is located in the south-eastern part of Poland, in Podkarpackie province. It lies on the important communication routes - rail and road routes, by the national road No. 4 and the motorway A 4 Germany - Ukraine. The eastern part of the district coincides on the length of seven kilometres with the Ukrainian border. Its area counts 1 029 km2 and is inhabited by over 120 000 people. It is territorially divided into the cities Jarosław and Radymno, urban-rural municipality Pruchnik and eight rural municipalities: Chłopice, Jarosław, Laszki, Pawłosiów, Radymno, Rokietnica, Roźwienica and Wiązownica.

The district Jarosław consists of agricultural and industrial areas with industry concentrated in Jarosław. The predominant branch of industry is food processing, what results from the agricultural character of the district. Other industry is also being developed, among others: construction, wood industry, glass industry, services, trade and tourism.

The district also has a modern border checkpoint Korczowa - Krakowiec, with a freight terminal, as well as a phytosanitary inspection point that enables effective communication between Poland and Ukraine.

The district Jarosław is a perfect place for leisure and active tourism. There is a lot to explore. First of all, the market square of Jarosław with neo-Renaissance town hall - one of the most valuable monuments of Renaissance architecture, there are also numerous examples of medieval merchant and burgher houses, among others house of Queen Marysieńka or one of Rydzikowscy. A museum administered by the district Jarosław is located in one of the most beautiful burgher houses in Poland, the late Renaissance house of the Orsetti family.

In every village you can find traces of the past typical for our region. In Pruchnik is preserved a downtown consisting of wooden constructions. It is recommended to visit the well-preserved manor and park complexes scattered throughout the district, including one in Boratyn, Chłopice, Rokietnica or Pełkinie. They are not only the pride of the landscape, but also present valuable monument of ancient art of gardening from the 18th and 19th centuries. Highly recommended are the monuments of Orthodox art, i.e. temples in Jarosław, Młyny and Chotyniec - orthodox church, which along with other wooden temples in Poland and Ukraine was in 2013 inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the district they are well known Marian Sanctuaries - in Jarosław (including Dominican church from the turn of the 16th/17th century), Jodłówka and Tuligłowy, frequently visited by pilgrims and tourists.

The River San and a 70-acre lake in Radymno are the best bets for fans of swimming, water sports and fishing. Another tourist attraction is the village Radawa with a specific unique microclimate and natural and educational path "Łapajówka - Radawa". However, the most valuable asset is the hospitality of the inhabitants of Jarosław.

Agriculture

The district Jarosław stands out from other districts of Subcarpathia in terms of agriculture. Cultivated land amounts to 68.2%, while arable land 51% of the total area of the district. The soils here are certainly one of the best in the province. The soil of quality class I - IV represents 82.8%. This allows the cultivation of all plants. The significant position - 58% takes the cultivation of cereals, sugar beet, oilseed rape, potatoes and fodder plants. The agrarian structure and natural conditions are favourable for horticultural production. Vegetable cultivation area of land counts 815 ha, and the predominant are cabbage, onions and carrots cultivation. The private sector dominates in the agricultural economy. Agricultural activity is conducted by more than 12 000 individual farms, of which 2.8 thousands on the surface of agricultural land of over 5 ha. The average size of an individual farm is 4.16 ha.

 

Industry

The district Jarosław is an agricultural and industrial district with industry concentrated in Jarosław. Intensive development of industry in the region began after World War II. The predominant branch of industry is food processing, what results from the agricultural character of the district. The number of economic entities in the district accounts to 7.8% of all companies registered in the Podkarpackie province, and their wide profile concerning production and service as well as support of business institutions has a positive impact on their financial condition. The private sector is dominant. Strong recovery is recorded in the process of creating small and medium-sized enterprises for which the neighbourhood of Ukraine creates a favourable climate for development.

Tourism

  • There are some regions that a potential tourist must visit. There is no doubt that such a place situated in the Podkarpackie province is the district Jarosław. Ecologically clean area, unique landscapes of Dynowskie Foothills - commonly known as Little Bieszczady Mountains are the ideal place for every tourist.
  • Jarosław - the capital of the district, a city of more than 600 year-long history, formerly located on the busy trade routes, famous in the 16th and 17th centuries for international markets, today it is an important administrative and economic centre and a major transportation hub. The pride of the town, considered by experts in history as one of the pearls of the Renaissance is Orsetti house.
  • The San River - in the 17th and 18th centuries was used as an important waterway for the transportation of goods. Today, its waters are ecologically clean, which makes it possible to use it for purposes like recreation, water sports and fishing. It is worth to paddle a canoe down the river as well as its right tributary - the river Lubaczówka.
  • Pruchnik is the unique, urban small-town complex containing wooden houses with characteristic arcades supported on pillars. About 40 houses were built in the 2nd half of the 19th century, and there are some older ones. The atmosphere of old Galician town is stressed by the stone Gothic St. Nicholas parochial church, Parochial Museum or columns called Tartar columns. Exactly in Pruchnik the habit of reckoning and beating Judas is cultivated. It is necessary to visit this town and taste the regional baking, which is the puppet.
  • It is also worth to visit Wooden Architecture Route, which transfers the visitor to a wooden universe filled with sacred objects (orthodox churches, churches, chapels and bell towers) and residential buildings (cottages, barns and wells).
  • Pilgrimage tourism in Jarosław area is popular since hundreds of years thanks to numerous centres of worship and pilgrimage of Marian Sanctuaries of the Roman and Greek Catholic rite. Year-round crowds of pilgrims come to Sanctuaries in Jarosław, Chłopice, Tuligłowy or Jodłówka that are famous for miracles.
  • In the church of the Virgin Mary at the Dominicans order in Jarosław is located the Altar of the Holy Relics. Certainly a surprise for visitors will be nearly 200 relics of the saints and blessed located in this unique altar.
  • The district tourism map contains numerous hiking and biking trails, which are safe to walk. These include Wooden Architecture Route, Chassidic Route, Podkarpacki Wine Route, International Tourist Trail in the footsteps of Aleksander Fredro, the Via Regia and others.
  • The great advantage of the tourist district is the village of Radawa having the unique microclimate. It is located in pine forests on the river Lubaczówka. It attracts those who appreciate the beauty and tranquillity, rich flora and fauna, clean unpolluted air as well as resting on the water.
